Building Chastity Planet

(If you prefer to read chastity erotica rather than read about writing it, then please skip to Episode One, or take a look at my male chastity novel.)

So, I’ve got my own planet! It’s called New Hymen. Like a lot of erotic worlds – let’s call them erototopias - it’s culture conspires to cater for a particular kink, in this case Male Chastity, with a dash of femdom. This makes it an S&M erototopia.

In most S&M erototopias, the doms seem to go to a lot of trouble to give the subs an erotic experience.

In the Story of ‘O’, despite all the arm waving about her total surrender, the masters spend ages putting the eponymous heroine through exquisite rituals, and take pleasure in stripping inhibitions so subtle that most men would stare at you blankly if you tried to explain them: “Yes, I made her sit on a cab seat with her legs open and no undies. Eh?” Men interested in pure physical pleasure care about receiving services – oral sex, massage, penetrating different positions and different orifices – not the state of their slave’s self esteem at that moment.

Similarly, the Anne Rice’s Beauty enjoys a masochist-orientated adventure. Even when she’s assigned to the Village where she’ll be a “real slave” and not a plaything, it’s all S&M fantasy. Real slaves don’t generally scrub floors holding brushes in their mouths, or transport gold coins in their rectums. Real slave owners just want the job done.

Does this matter? It’s only erotic fantasy.

True, but I’m one of those people who gets a buzz out of walking barefoot over an ancient cobbled street through a ruined city and imagining what it would be like to be the personal slave of a nymphomaniac Roman widow.

The more believable the scenario, the more powerful the fantasy. This is especially true of S&M fantasies. Reality gives them edge. (Though too much reality can spoil them.)

I'm also fascinated by girl next-door doms and vanilla relationships kinkified by chastity.

So, I created New Hymen as a far future female orientated pleasure planet. Somewhere, women and girls (over the age of consent) can let go, without any consequences. It’s not just “The safest girl’s night out in the known universe.” It’s also a place where women have all the physical and erotic power.

It wasn’t realistic to populate New Hymen with male slaves.

Straight women having fun like to flirt, neck, and enjoy one-night stands with pickups. Watch a hen party in action - there is no action without men to torment, intimidate, and ultimately entice. A planet of obedient male slaves just wouldn’t be interactive enough. There’d also be a problem with recruiting that many male subs willing to live 24/7 for a year or so.

So, how to use the SF setting in order to tweak the power balance in women’s favour, but without turning New Haven into an explicitly S&M world?

First, reverse the threat of violence. Each man is disarmed by an anti-violence collar (remember Spike’s chip?) and has no legal protection against anything but the most serious assault. Since most women are too civilised to beat up a man, they have the option to give out Demerits. Three Demerits, and it’s a nasty public whipping. Oh, and - just for non-assertive women from backwards patriarchal worlds – Half Demerits are anonymous and totted up at midnight each day.

The erotic power? That’s harder. Even when men can’t take pleasure by force, they can get it by emotional blackmail, or just by a female sense of duty – not all the visitors come from emancipated societies. The answer - strangely enough - is to put all the men in chastity belts… or better yet – since this is the Far Future – chastity cups held on by nanotechnology.

If he’s lucky, and depending on his caste, a man might persuade a woman to use her control ring to open his belt just enough for him to touch the tip of his penis. However, for most castes, this only works if she’s had a recent orgasm. Strangely enough, New Hymen men are very diligent lovers.

So, if the men are all disempowered, where do they come from? They need to be normal young men from off-planet, or there’s no story – an acculturated slave is about as interesting as a happy masochist. Also, normal women would turn away from a planet full of “drooling sex perverts”. Unfortunately, a normal man wouldn’t sign up to be sex slave for a year, and certainly wouldn’t want people to know about it!

What might tempt them – if the money was right – would be visiting worker status. Even nowadays, backpackers work in far more physically hazardous places. The Demerit system might seem arbitrary, but then travelling foreigners have always risked falling foul of local custom. If you’re polite and well behaved you really don’t have anything to fear… and did I mention that the money’s good. There’s also several very good universities. Course fees are waived for males, and the degrees laundered through off-planet institutions.

So most men arrive as Free Neuters, and leave a few months later, erotic horizons broadened. If they arrive with a partner hook up with a resident, they can even become Kept Men.

But, because some women want more subjugated men (and because this is a setting for erotic stories, which fail if there's nothing at stake), there’s a carefully set up slippery slope.

So, here's the hierarchy of male servitude on New Hymen:

  1. Free Neuter: CB never opens. Live freely as second class citizens.

  2. Kept Man: CB opens by default at home, but controlled by mistress.

  3. Bondsman: CB opens whenever a post-orgasmic woman decrees.

  4. Neuter: CB never opens.

  5. Mute: As Neuter. Also unable to speak.

  6. Damned: Sexual pleasure causes pain. Other statuses exist for this rank.

NOTES:

To get out of a duff relationship or dodge a public whipping, you can demote yourself, either as a gift to a woman of your choice, or else for public auction with the proceeds going to your bank account for when you eventually leave - of course, demoting resets the release clock…

Value increases the further down the scale you go, so if you give yourself to somebody, there's always the risk she'll just sell you on.

Businesses treat their bondsmen fairly well because they stand to lose money through voluntary demotion. They also give them time off, since there's a good chance of a sale to a lovestruck female at an inflated rate.

You might also want to include a "guest" level - say for 30 days or less, with no orgasm privileges whatsoever, but also free of the demerit system. That way people could have layovers or brief stopovers on Chastity Planet (or put in for repairs) and sample some of the delights and scenery without fear of a whipping. It also provides a story hook - guy stops by for a ten day tour, and falls for a local girl (and thus extends his stay. . .). There could also be a tradition of gift-giving to bondsmen, with people still talking about some of the more extravagant ones (like Jim Jones, who was given an entire planet by the Empress of the Silver Star interstellar empire)

Oh, and there are a number of elements you could work with to help make Chastity Planet attractive to males. First is the reputation - a guy who's spent a year or two on Chastity Planet has probably developed very impressive sexual skills. So a guy - tired of all the girls oo-ing and ah-ing over a douchebag just back - decides to go himself to impress his crush

You might also consider an alternate punishment system for high-ranked males. A woman may not want her kept man cover in whip marks, for example, and so there's some sort of alternative.

Keeping the focus on the high ranked castes could help, too. Most guys could probably tolerate (if not enjoy) a year as free neuter, kept man, or bondsman. So if most contracts are for those three - and demotions beyond neuter are rare - more guys would be willing to take the risk.

Finally, two safety valves could be put in place. The first would be a buy-out clause: a male who finds himself in a truly awful situation could buy out his contract at a steep (yet doable) penalty. Say immediate forfeiture of all gifts and property held on Chastity Planet, and paying off the cash value of his entire contract (payment plans available). Make it harsh enough that most guys would rather serve out the year than pay it, but its an option for males who truly need out. This helps eliminate (or at least minimize) horror stories of serving on Chastity Planet.

The other safety valve would be some kind of exclusion system. During a demotion, a male could specify a female who could never own him - and if this happens a lot, said female would be blacklisted from all of the males. This keeps the true psychos in check - and again helps limit any horror stories

Welcome Night Owl! These are useful thoughts...

"Guest level" is a great idea. In fact, I've already created this by having different states with different laws. Minerva (capital New Athens, famous for its universities) is closed cup throughout, but has no demerit system. I guess the space port would be there too. Love the idea of a stopover romance - feel free to write it yourself, otherwise I may use it.

"Gifts" - yes, great idea.

"Making it more attractive to males" - yes, reputation is a god one. I already have a character who's come tolearn how to please girls.

"Alternative punishment" - For kept men, I think there'll be an option to "do it yourself". In fact, having your kept man go to the public whipping house means you get sent a bill.

"Keeping the focus on the high ranked castes" yes. Most men come to study (because its cheap) or work as free Neuters. The poorer or kinkier ones go in as thralls and hope to find somebody to buy them as a kept man.

The lower castes only exist in certain places. You always have the option to promote as well, but that's expensive on time. At "free" you can leave the planet, but with the snag that the cup only comes off when you've done the time on Vesta (as I'm calling the place now). There can't be a buy out, because otherwise he'd always be thinking about whether it was worth 1000 credits to have an orgasm.

The "exclusion clause" is a neat idea, but it spoils the fantasy, "What if your psycho ex could *buy* you?"

Again, if you're being stalked by your ex, you can always promote and spend 4 years as a free neuter.

NB Kept Man now has the same cup mechanism as a Thrall. If she comes, she has the option to open his cup a little, briefly

I don't know if you're going to address them in the book, but I have a couple of quick questions about the setting:

1)Cup Colors - does each caste have its own color (silver for bondsmen, flesh tone for kept men, etc.)? Do they (or their contract owner) get to pick? Can businesses (or aristocratic families) get their logo/crest emblazoned on the male's cup?

2)Caste Differences - what's the practical difference between being a woman's "kept man" and her personal "bondsman"? Some possibilities that occurred to me:

~a bondsman can hold down a job (theoretically chosen by his contract holder), but the kept man can't

~there are special/higher taxes/fees levied against kept men - which could lead to some interesting discussions between couples trying to save money

~a kept man's collar/cup has a wireless "leash" function

However - since you're the author - I'm curious to learn what the actual ones are

3)Leaving - What happens if a male has to leave Chastity Planet for a short time (say for a funeral)? Does he have to risk explaining the cup to his relatives/friends/lovers back home?

4)Pelvic Protector - Can a female get the female version of a chastity cup - either for normal life or for special off-world trips?

And again, I appreciate your time to address my earlier comments. I've read through your response, and I'd like to followup on some:

A)Its pretty clear you've set the society up in such a way that it encourages males to demote themselves - but that you only want it to go so far. Is the aim to merely get them to demote themselves one rank (just as a matter or principle)? Or is the idea to get all of the males to a specific caste - bondsman and neuter seem the most likely

B)I'm glad you like the "Guest" idea - even if it seems to have come a bit too late in the development process. Have you considered the possibility of a special "Student" level? There seems like there might be . . . potential, for colleges to lock their male students into an "until you graduate" contract (possibly with minimum GPA, attendance, and "school spirit" requirements). And I think there'd be a lot of interest from interplanetary students wanting to spend a semester (but only a semester) abroad on Chastity Planet.

C)The idea of being bought by a psycho-ex might have an appeal for some males - but I think Chastity Planet would prove more attractive to a wider pool of males if that option was ruled out. Hmm . . .you might consider a "psycho-ex" option for the Damned caste if you really want to keep that possibility. But again, I think most males would prefer an option to get away from a truly dysfunctional/dangerous ex - even if they don't want to (or can't afford to) promote to Free Neuter.

Cup Colours - cups and collars are colour coded for caste.

Caste distinctions: Current thinking - somebody can own more than one bondsman. A kept man is just a bondsman owned by an individual. Bondsmen possibly have rights to time off...

Leaving: Good point! The collar comes off, but not the cup, which goes closed. Without the collar, the timer is suspended. So leave for as long as you want, but you need to serve your time before the cup comes off - a bit like the Foreign Legion.

More later...

re Female Pelvic protector. I'm sure one exists in this universe... but not on chastity planet.

Re A:
(NB This is just the Republic of Femtopia. Other systems exist in other states)
For stories, it's designed to have a slippery slope. However, for the people living there, it's designed to provide a stable system of relations between the sexes. Women in charge, but limited by the ability of the male to escape their clutches.

Re B

"Guests" fit they scheme nicely, actually. They are free neuters. If they wander into Femtopia, then they can earn demerits and are subject to local law - a bit like Americans visiting Shanghai - but can always get on the ferry back to Minerva before things go too far.

"Student level" would also just be free neuter. The main university city is New Athens, Minerva, so closed cup but no demerit system, no ownership. Of course, it's easily commutable from Femtopia, and some student romances end up with the couple relocating to there so he can be her thrall (and get off) but still attend classes.

There are, of course, some very good female professors at the Univesity of Minerva.

The locked-till-you-pass idea is a bit too male centric for New Athens, though no reason it shouldn't exist somewhere on the planet as a last chance saloon for rich brats. The drop out rate might be a bit high, though, with lots of young men stuck for a very long time.

C The psycho ex: there's no way to trace a male on the planet, so there would be very little chance of her catching up with you, unless you came to the place with her.

If she does buy you, she can't kill or mutilate you (there's a safety circuit in the male slave collar). She can however make your life a living hell.

If you demote or promote, then she loses her money. You also have the option to give yourself to a named lady, who you can hope wouldn't immediately sell you back, even if the psycho ex could afford it.

If you demote, that reduces your time on planet by 50%. Promoting increases it by 300%. A sideways move costs you 150%. So, sign on for 2 years as a kept man, the girlfriend turns crazy, so moving sideways would cost you an extra year. Unless she's rich, you're safe.

I think most men would take the attitude they have today; "It won't happen to me."

Hmm . . . interesting points . . . and more to ask (and speculate) about . . .

Immigration - So what is the immigration/visa procedure for Vesta? Does a male immigrant get his chastity cup and collar on his home world, or at some sort of processing facility (possibly an orbital station) at Vesta? And what's the slang term for the process? Getting "cupped"? Neutered?

And when does a female get her demerit ring? Do the immigration authorities have her practice on a couple of demo males before she goes out in the general populace?

And do members of both genders stay at an outworlder friendly location (to acclimate) - kind of a practice run - before joining the citizens and longterm residents at their games?

Standards - How are you guaranteeing that a woman's demerit ring will work on all males, and that a male's cup will respond to all female rings? And who decides how/when new technologies are incorporated into both?

The obvious solution (to me) is to set up a trans-national/planetwide committee, similar to the Food & Drug Administration (to give an American analogy). This committee - which each nation would send representatives to - would decide on standards for both rings and cups - what castes each cup must recognize (each nation could add more, of course, for their own residents), frequencies for the rings, etc. That would set a base line, and guarantee that there were never any free penises on Vesta.

Anti-Tampering - Are male students allowed to take classes where they'd learn how to dismantle their cups? And are there inspectors who periodically go around and inspect male cups to make sure they're intact and functioning properly? What is the penalty for tampering with a cup, or being on Vesta without a fully functional one?

* * * *

And let me test my understanding of how the setting works:

In New Athens/Minerva, the attitude towards males is a mix of Victorian morality and certain strains of contemporary feminism. For some residents, males are fine, and would be considered equals, if not for "testosterone poisoning" - their masculine impulses have to be restrained. For others, the male sex drive is disturbing, and insist that males who want to live/work there do without orgasm. Its a closed cup system, but - except for lower caste guests from other countries - all males are Free Neuters.

For females, indulging their own sexual desires with males is considered roughly the same way we (modern people) consider using alcohol - a vice, but (in moderation) a minor one. Taking a kept man (or owning other male contracts) is looked somewhat askance - like wondering if a friend is developing a problem with alcohol - and requires the female to live outside New Athens proper.

Because of its proximity to the main space port, a resident of New Athens can quickly and cheaply commute back and forth to a number of other countries, providing residents a chance to live in/tour other societies, some stressing equality, others female supremacy, some outright militancy.

Femtopia, located close enough to New Athens to make it an easy commute, takes a different tack. Femtopians revel in female sexuality and the female orgasm - and see the best way to that is ruthless control of male sexuality and their ability to orgasm. Women in Femtopia are encouraged to indulge with males, and to own contracts. Males of all castes exist in Femtopia, although a casual/occasional guest will only see the higher ranked ones. Its an open cup, demerit system society that doesn't require men to wear clothing (which appeals to fans of CFNM). Students at the New Athens universities routinely cross the border into Femtopia to indulge in various "vices".

Giles English said...

Night Owl's next comment seems to have vanished. Here's my response anyway:

Immigration: I think there's an orbital processing station where men are fitted out appropriately to their destination. On landing at New Athens, all cups are closed. However, specific caste is activated on crossing the border to your destination.

Women are handed a demerit ring on entering Femtopia.

In general, no training is given. Possibly the whipping resulting from 5 demerits is worse each time, starting off from merely unpleasant.

Standards: The aliens govern the planet, and tend to hand out territory and technology for their own inscrutable reasons. Some speculation that the whole thing is a gigantic experiment.

Anti-Tampering: The cups are alien-provided. Nobody has ever managed to work out how they truly work.

Setting:

Yes, Minerva in general and New Athens in particular is set up on utopian, if rather flaky assumptions about how people work. If you want a mutually satisfying erotic relationship with an actual man, you need to relocate to Femtopia so he can demote to Kept Man, and then the both of you can commute back.

Long term citizens of Minerva have a variety of attitudes. However, nobody interferes with freedom of movement or association.

Easy commuting is only feasible between Femtopia and Minverva. Other polities are further away. Possibly I should site the space port near Femtopia, thus explaining its cheaper property prices.

Femtopia is also utopian, and more or less as you describe it. However, in most of its areas, nudity taboos still apply. No reason why it shouldn't have a naturist zone.

An Insomniac Night Owl said...

1)Hmm . . . the aliens seem to have become an integral component in the setting. Are you sure you want to use them so heavily?

To me, the aliens appear to limit the future potential of the setting, should you chose to revisit it. If humans are designing the cups & collars, you have the potential for males wearing experimental cups, for female inspection teams to barge into sensitive events (birthday parties, classes, etc.) for surprise inspections . . . And right now it seems more like the aliens run the world, not the women.

Maybe it would help to know more about the founding. What kind of people were the initial settlers, and what were their views on sexuality?

2)So where is your initial Chastity Planet story set? I'd assumed that Tom & co. were in Femtopia - but people didn't have an issue with Tom walking around in nothing but shoes (and cup & collar)

By the way, why would a neutered male be considered indecent, even completely nude? Very informal, perhaps, but wouldn't it fit the setting to have otherwise nude males trailing after their contract holders?

3) So is daily life (beyond the cups) basically patterned on contemporary Western life? Same kinds of fashion, social mores, etc.?

4)I really think you should have women get their rings upon immigrating to Vesta. Even if they never go to Femtopia (or another place that uses the demerit system), it would breed confidence - and remind the males just who's in charge

And do they still have gender segregated facilities? Are all bathrooms, shower facilities etc. coed? Or are there female-only and coed facilities (with no male only locations)?

5) Finally - given its proximity to Femtopia - may I suggest implementing a de facto caste system in New Athens? In New Athens, everyone is treated as a Free Neuter, but with a closed cup. However, when the residents of New Athens cross the border into Femtopia, it would make sense that Femtopia would make arrangements to transfer their status into the more conventional castes. Students, tourists, et al would be unchanged ("Free Neuters". Employees and other longterm residents (without other ties) would find their cups and collars converting to "bondsmen" colors. Convicts convert to "Damned". And when they cross back into New Athens, they revert to their usual status. Kind of a mix of "honorary status" and "full faith and credit between governments"

6)Oh, and may I suggest that Femtopia have a policy requiring that all males be strip-searched at the border. Not necessarily for contraband, but as a way to underscore the social realities. A male who's just had to strip down to cup & collar in front of his female friends/coworkers/boss is a male who's just been reminded he's there for their pleasure, not his (and likewise, it reminds his female companions that its "their world").

More extreme, you could even have Femtopia confiscate his clothes. Males in the know would have a set of clothes waiting for him on the other side of the border, but there could be a lot of innocent fun at the expense of first-timers who have to scramble to find replacement clothes.

One final point (from earlier):

I think it will work better (and give more flexibility) to put more distance between the “kept men” and the bondsmen. Here’s one take on how it could work:

Kept Man

*his cup only opens when his contract holder has an orgasm

*his owner can file to have his cup closed for either a specified length of time (say 30 days to work on a presentation), until he leaves/enters a region, or until she has a set number of orgasms herself. Once ordered closed, even she cannot waive that requirement (although she can extend it)

*he is expected to stay quasi-monogamous, only pleasuring his contract holder and anyone she chooses to share him with

~his contract holder is not required to stay monogamous, but most consider it tacky to have intercourse with another male in front of him

*If he’s with his contract holder, his collar will only accept very limited commands from other women, and only if they don’t conflict with her orders

*he has control of his own money, and is allowed an allowance out of any joint accounts (determined by his contract holder). She can set the limit so high that he has (effectively) unlimited access, but the default is rather low (say $50 a week).

*with the permission of his contract holder, a kept man may hold a job

~by custom, most contract holders only hire out their kept man if they want him to learn some skill (such as a stint in the lick boxes) or they’re hoping someone will buy his contract from her. As such, most kept men can only find short term/contract/temp work - and while working, he can expect other women to try and buy his contract, or set his contract holder up with other males.

*a kept man is taxed (for community services and equipment: police, fire, mass transit, etc.) like a woman or free neuter

*when registering a male as her kept man, a contract holder must pay a yearly fee to keep him exclusively for herself

*if legally married (elsewhere) to his contract holder, a kept man may not file for divorce

*if he choses to move sideways (and be another woman’s kept man), his former contract owner is entitled to file for divorce with cause (if legally married) and seize any joint accounts.

More coming . . .

continued from last post:

As for Bondsman, I suggest splitting the cast into two subgroups: Bondsmen (Individual Owner) and Bondsman (Corporate Owner)

Both types:
*a bondsman owes his owner 10 hours of “work” (anything from manual labor to white collar/desk work to sexual).

*During his “work” shift, his owner may order his cup closed

*When not at work, his cup is open, and he is allowed to come and go as he sees fit

*a bondsman is not taxed (although his owner may owe fees for services he consumes)

*a bondsman’s owner is required to provide shelter, (healthy - not necessarily tasty) nutrition, appropriate clothing, and basic medical care.

*a bondsman is frozen out of any accounts he holds jointly with a woman

*any post-orgasmic woman can open his cup

*a bondsman will usually be given gifts or an allowance

*A bondsman’s collar and/or cup may display the name, logo/crest, and/or contact info of his contract owner (her choice)

*Most places do not consider bondsmen to be “social equals”. Thus a bondsman is not a suitable escort for a fancy dinner party, businesses are free to limit access by bondsmen (they might have to come in the service entrance, etc.)

Individually owned - an individually owned bondsman is one part personal servant, one part mistress, and one part sex slave

*his contract owner can subcontract him out to a corporate entity for up to eight hours a day

~all funds from subcontracting are paid to the contract owner

~the contract owner isn’t required (or expected) to consult with the bondsman first

*even if legally married (elsewhere), both bondsman and contract owner are allowed to engage in sex acts with others, and it is not grounds for divorce

~the owner is also free to acquire a kept man, other bondsmen, etc.

*demoting oneself from kept man to bondsman (individually owned) is not grounds for divorce, as long as he keeps the same contract holder.

Corporate Owned
*The collar of a corporate bondsman prioritizes commands given by any higher ranked employees, then female patrons/clients, then all females in general

*Higher ranked female employees are encouraged to request sexual favors from the bondsmen

*demoting to Bondsman (Corporate Ownership) is grounds for divorce with cause

*Any organization (government agency, private business, non-profit, etc.) is allowed to own bondsmen

*A corporate bondsman may apply for openings within the organization without extending his contract

Among other things, this allows for demotions within an otherwise happy romance.

Thanks for helping me think this through!

1. Aliens hand out the land for settlement, and the tech to support constitutions, but are otherwise absent. This makes it possible for groups of women to set up their own mini-civilisations with their own tweaked versions of the cups.

Otherwise, you'd be into secession etc etc. They are not intended to feature in the story.

I think the first settlement was Minerva, but that as the rleationships and people matured, it spawned Femtopia, and possibly some female only states as well.

The original Minervans are losely modelled on the more emasculating flavours of 20th century feminism. Not necessarily anti-male, but with some odd ideas about sex and masculinity.

Story-wise, the idea was to create a world which was pyschologically plausible, in which various forms of chastity and power relations are a given. Something more police state would be fun, but belongs in a different setting.

2. Nudity taboos probably vary. I'm not sure women want to see random sweaty naked guys except in certain circumstances, e.g. when clubbing - the setting of the initial story - or perhaps in the tropical zones.

Routine nakedness savours of ritual to humiliate the males, wich violates the "not about the boy" rule.

3) Daily life is roughly 21st century in feel, with a range of mores. Otherwise, we won't have characters to identify with.

4) Perhaps the ring lets them access various services, and ensures infertility. Yes, I'll give it to them on arrival.

Washroom and shower segregation varies. Minverva refuses to accept gender differences, so everything is unisex.

5) Doesn't work! Most free neuters would be glad to spend a day as a bondsman, since there's a chance of getting off.

6) Institutionalised humiliation, again, seems to be "about the boy". Plus femtopia is pro-tourism.
However, there are plenty of random bad things that can happen in front of colleagues and classmates.

Re kept man: I haven't firmed up the technical details, and customs will differ wildly. I suspect some relationships will only work financially if the kept man works, and this could mean prostitution.

Mostly they get treated like submissive husbands. There's usually a romantic relationship. Morals will depend on the crowd the lady moves with.

I quite like the idea of the cups having punishment/training modes - especially because they could be activated on whim or in a temper...

As for taxes and divorce - prefer to keep things simple. Also, Vesta as a rule is not interested in your offworld legal status.

The women control the money, which is entirely electronic. This suggests the possibility of a black economy....

re bondsman

Yes. They owe so many hours work, but have an allowance and their own money. They have no recourse against sexual or other harrassment. They can opt to be put on the market again, but this increases the length of their contract and probably decreases their value.

Cup opens for any orgasmic woman, but not during work hours.

Otherwise they're the same as kept man.

Looking back, I think I missed something important. At one point, you said:

"Half Demerits are anonymous and totted up at midnight each day."

If that's still part of the setting, it makes sense to restrict males from leaving until midnight. Otherwise, Minervan males might be able to skip out on a whipping.

. . . and there could be story potential, there, with a bunch of guys waiting out the clock at the border, wondering if there's enough hal-demerits to push them into a whipping

More like, they only discover the demerits when they come back on their next visit.

"Shit! I picked up two demerits last time. I'm getting back on the ferry."

"Oh Andy, we're only going to the indy gallery opening. What could possibly go wrong there?"
